The alt bands sleighing Christmas songs this year

It’s that time of the year again; you’ve decorated the tree, fished out your flashiest Christmas jumper and compiled a list of shopping to leave till the last minute. That means there’s only one important thing left to sort; the playlist. Well this year, for the first ever, we’ve got you covered with a collection of the coolest alt carols, so crank the volume and explore our selection of Christmas songs.

Words: Renette van der Merwe

1. Senses Fail – I Wish it was Christmas today

The Alt Club have always been Team Jimmy Fallon and we adored when he premiered a glorious little Christmas number on SNL. Years later and one (or three) riffs later, Senses Fail elevated the humble ditty to god tier status.

2. Escape The Fate – Christmas Song

Escape The Fate have never had any problems writing post-hardcore tracks, but they’ve shown a different side for Christmas. Writing a pop punk ‘Christmas Song’ that’ll knock Santa’s boots off.

3. New Found Glory – December’s Here

December is indeed here and after a year that felt like it would never end, we’re all pretty pumped. Of course New Found Glory have also gone and written the Christmas song we didn’t know we needed.

4. Dragged Under – This Holiday

Not feeling the holidays? Hey, that’s okay. We have a feeling Dragged Under might not be either, releasing ‘This Holiday’ as the ultimate anti-Christmas song and being a grinch has honestly never sounded this good.

5. Morning in May – Yule Shoot Your Eye Out

Post-hardcore trio, Morning In May, have gone full pop punk with their latest offering. Covering Fall Out Boy, they’ve added a bit of their own spin on ‘Yule Shoot Your Eye Out’ and the result is *chef’s kiss*.

And that only covers the songs released this year! There’s plenty more to be found, including My Chemical Romance, blink-182 and more, so head to our playlist for more.
