Introducing:
Calmgrove

For Fans Of: Real Friends / Belmont / Action/Adventure

Selected by Bayside’s fans to support the icons on tour, Calmgrove know what it’s like to play a huge show, and if they keep doing what they’re doing, they’ll play one again as the headline act. Blending pop punk with emo, the SoCal quintet chat to us about wishlists, ‘Fixate’, and more.

Interview

Tell us a little about yourself. Where the name came from, how long you’ve been going for and anything else new fans would want to know.

Sup we’re CALMGROVE from Southern California. Our band name came from a street in my neighborhood – we had a list full of names and decided to go with it. We started playing together in high school but “Calmgrove” started in 2018!

Can you recall your very first memory of music?

We all have similar first memories of music. Whether it be our first show or first Warped Tour. Or hearing a “new” band played through the stereo in our older siblings room. Personally, I’ll (Eric) never forget seeing Taking Back Sunday in 6th grade and immediately knowing that I wanted to do what they’re doing.

Who’s on your wishlist of artists that you’d love to collaborate with and/or open for on tour?

We’d love to tour with Citizen, Locket, Balance & Composure(RIP), Point North, nothing nowhere, just to name a few. We’d LOVE to work with Will Yip someday!

Speaking of live shows, what’s your favourite story from a show so far?

We’ve had some really funny “pep” talks before we hit the stage, where one of us gets the honor to pump everyone with their best halftime speech. We have had some injuries, too. We played the Glasshouse in Pomona with Belmont and about 30 seconds into the set I jumped and rolled my ankle. Within 5 minutes my ankle was the size of a softball.

You released your new single, ‘Fixate’ not too long ago. What were some of the most fun and also most challenging aspects of recording it?

Yeah, we dropped it a few weeks back! Thanks so much if you’ve checked it out. One of the coolest parts about recording it was seeing it grow from an idea to an actual song. We went through many changes with it and it was really fulfilling to hear the final mix of it! We had a couple challenges with finding the “perfect” guitar leads, but the boys crushed it!

Settle an argument for us (and the rest of the world) pineapple on pizza?

Oh, 100% pineapple belongs on pizza. And if your don’t like it – sweet, more for us!
