Introducing
Bad Waitress
Having crushed it on tour with the likes of Rise Against, L7 and The Bronx, Bad Waitress – a Toronto band who take no prisoners – have joined us to chat about Idles, whether pineapple belongs on pizza and to share their absolutely killer inspiration playlist.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where the name came from, how long you’ve been going for and anything else new fans would want to know.
Bad Waitress has existed in varying shapes and forms since 2016. Kali and Eva started it. It’s their fault! The four horsewomen of the apocalypse you see now, has existed since the summer of 2018. The band name comes from Katelyn sucking at her job (in her defense she is a great entertainer, though unfortunately blessed with two left feet and the attention span of a goldfish suffering a concussion).
What is your very first memory of music?
Since Katelyn was given the task of answering these questions, she will regale you with her first memory (and stop talking in third person). My first memory of music is of my father’s cassette tape recording of me singing ‘Jesus Loves Me.’ I believe I was two and a half at the time of this botched attempt at covering a song. I invented a completely new language and it sounds positively Satanic.
Let’s talk about some of the really cool bands you’ve toured with already.
Here’s a list of bands we’ve played with that made us pinch ourselves and shit our pants, or shit ourselves and pinch our pants.
L7, Rise Against, Fucked Up, The Bronx, Hollerado, Wolf Parade, and if Punk Rock Bowling hadn’t been postponed because of That Which Shall Not Be Named-19 we would have been able to add Propaghandi and Circle Jerks to this list. We’ve also played some super sick festivals over the last few years including River & Sky, Crystal Lake Fest, Pouzza Fest, NXNE, Basilica Soundscapes, and well, FEST.
Is there a band or artist that you’d love to collaborate with and/or open for on tour?
Idles. Idles Idles Idles. 100%. I was explaining the other day that I haven’t obsessed over a band this hard since 2000 when Linkin Park’s ‘One Step Closer’ came out. Yes, I loved Linkin Park, and you know what, fuck off. You do too.
Anyway, yes, Idles.
Speaking of live shows, what’s your favourite story from a show so far?
Tough call. There’s the time we played on Halloween night at our favourite bar and Kali kicked some guy straight in the chest sending him flying across the room. There’s also the time we had an album release at The Piston and used a Toblorone as a barrier from the mosh pit. There’s also the time we played at 3:30 am during Crystal Lake fest and everyone was high on acid (including the band). My personal favourite was at River and Sky last year. After playing the last note of our last song I dropped my guitar, sprinted across the sand and dove into the river. Nothing has ever felt more refreshing, ever.
Settle an argument for us (and the rest of the world) pineapple on pizza?
FUCK NO.
Music
Inspiration
Rising to the challenge, Bad Waitress have put together an electrifying collection of songs that best encapsulates the artists and music that inspire them as a band.
